My name is Willowa and I make handmade sensory artworks. One product I create is called a Re'Kleimme. They are a dual sensory aid, sight and touch product assisting with anxiety, tactile sensitivity, hypersensitivity as well as memory. Another product I create is a single sensory aid called a DPMB brooch. It is an abberviation Don't Push My Buttons.
How it all began...
After a visit to my auntie’s home, she asked if I would create a bear from my late uncles clothing. I wanting to make her something special to assist her during this time, so I created a keepsake bear. Before I started creating her keepsake, I decided to create a smaller, less complicated one.
I continued creating these smaller ones, long after I finished my aunties keepsake. They assisted with my healing and gave a purpose and direction. I decided to call them a Re’kleimme, a play on words of 'reclaim me'.
My products are made from upcycled textiles, haberdashery, bed linen and blankets. I try to keep to a 80/20 ratio with upcycled/new.
Each piece unique and individually has an embroidered number on their back leg, which I keep a registrar as part of a future installation artwork.
Thus far, I have made 700 and they have been adopted and reside in Hawaii, Japan, Texas, Scotland, German, Slovenia, Hong Kong and all throughout Australia.
I would love you to be a part of this journey.
